Kidz Need Dadz Tauranga was established in 2002 to strengthen families by supporting and educating Dads on the importance of being involved in their children’s lives.
Although we recognise mothers are very important, studies have shown that children do better when they have a supportive caring father in their lives also. Whether they live under the same roof or in different homes children need two parents.
To do this KND Tauranga works in several areas

Kidzkare Services:
Kidz Need Dadz - KidzKare services provide supervised contact, this service is for men and women and sometimes grandparents who would like to see their children but cannot see them unsupervised. This may be because of drug and alcohol issues, lack of parenting knowledge or family violence. Some parents are doing courses or drug and alcohol programs and it may be that they will go unsupervised at some stage. This is decided by the courts.

Oranga Tamariki referralls and private referrals also come to KidzKare Services.
KidzKare is also providing these services in Whakatane and Opotiki.
Education Programmes
Kidz Need Dadz has two education programs for men.
Good Parents to Great Parents covers why Dads need to be involved in their childrens lives; Messages from our Parents/Parenting styles; Health and Nutrition; Working with the other Parent; Ages and Stages; Effects of Domestic Violence on Children; Keeping our Children Safer from Sexual Abuse and Putting it all together.
Surviving Separation covers Understanding your emotions, Depression fear and loss. Working with the other Parent for the best outcome for the children, Understanding the court process, Unmasking the legal jargon, Self-esteem, Being single and confident and Financial advice. This course runs for 6 weeks and is 2 hours per week. Members from the community such as the family court coordinator, a member of IRD a financial adviser, a social worker and counsellor will be invited to addressthe participants so they get the best possible information and support.
Community Education: Kidz Need Dadz has made a commitment to raise the understanding of the effects of absent fathers. We believe very little is known about these effects and the long term damage to children when fathers are not involved with their childrens lives. There are many different reasons why Dads don't stay involved. Some because of a one night stand they may not really like the women they impregnated, a man may think he is not good enough and will do his children more harm than good, Road Blocks-the Ex through anger, jealousy, bitterness and resentment that the relationship has ended plants seed in the children's mind that their father is useless. Ties issues up in the courts and makes it so difficult that the father gives up hoping his children will come back to him when they are older. Whatever the reason the results remain the same. Giving community talks raises the understanding and will grow healthier communities.
Bitz & Bobz OP Shop:
In 2016 Kidz Need Dadz Charitable Trust opened an op shop.
Why an op-shop?
The Op Shop is a project born of the need to provide a sustainable funding source to assist the Men who come to us for accommodation, or weekly support meetings, who use our 24 hour crisis phone line, educational courses or to use KidzKare supervised contact services. Our mission Statement is: “Strengthening Father/Child Relationships through Support, Education and Fun” We believe Kids need Dads who are loving, caring and supportive. We’re a small organisation with limited funding and resources. Our long term strategy is to see our organisation become less dependent on Government and non-government funding with further investment into social enterprise projects like an Op Shop. All profits from the opshop go directly to helping the clients who come to Kidz Need Dadz
